Hi Lynn, I would suggest you contact a charity already working in that area to see if they can help. I've just googled the name of the village and 'charity' and this came up! Might be worth checking out, although I think they are based in USA. Hope this helps. Kathryn

While visiting Banjul a week ago ,two young men who keep ponies on the beach expressed their wish to help children in the village of Salikenni. They would like to help 10 children through school by recruiting donations from the UK. I would love any advice on setting up a method to ensure the money reaches the children, I have quite a few friens who would help.
Thank you for your time regards Lynn

Just to further clarify Kathryn's response above. All of the stoves we supply are most effective when used with a new form of briquette made from the abundant "free" supply of ground nut shells. These are compressed in a machine and we buy them from a Gambia owned company called GeoTech. The briquettes have been extensively trialled and customers seem delighted with the results when they use them. We charge 6 dalasi (about 14p) per kilo for the briquettes and all tests show a marked reduction in cooking costs from alternatives such as wood and charcoal.

Hello Su, I believe this is one of the great advantages of these stoves as that they can run on a variety of fuels including rice husks and peanut shells which are waste products commonly available, thereby saving money.
If you email Dick at dick@dicksisman.com he will be able to give you all the information you need. Do let us know how you get on.
best regards, Kathryn

I just want to tell you all, I am so happy that I will be going to Makasutu the first week of May. Lawrence has invited us, my sister Carole and her family and I. The only regret is, that I did not go when James was there to show us around, But I feel that he will be with us all in spirit. The last words that I said to my brother, that I loved him, I was proud of him, and that I would go this year to Makasutu. I will write again after my trip to Makasutu. Yvonne Burgar

Hi I have family in the Gambia and would consider buying a cooker for each household but first I need to know what they run on. It would be a waste of money if they had to buy expensive fuel to run them!
